Dalkia recovers heat from Tresorio’s computer servers to heat part of the hot water at Mercy’s hospital in Metz.

Press Realease – July 12th 2018

Sylvie Jéhanno, CEO of Dalkia, Marie-Odile Saillard, Director of CHR Metz-Thionville and Loïc Gorka, COO of Tresorio, inaugurate, on July the 12th 2018, a pilot digital boiler at Mercy hospital (CHR Metz-Thionville).

The digital boiler designed by Dalkia and the start-up Tresorio is composed of computer servers whose heat is recycled to heat part of the domestic hot water (for sanitary use) for the comfort of Mercy hospital.

Tresorio provides Dalkia with computer servers, which perform computations for companies and individuals without storing their datas. The computer server racks, which consume approximately 10 kW of electricity each, are kept at an optimal temperature thanks to a water cooling circuit. Dalkia recovers the heat of this water thanks to a thermal module to provide competitive and virtuous energy to the Mercy Hospital of the Metz-Thionville CHR.

The digital boiler participates in the energy transition by recovering the so-called “fatal” heat emitted by computer servers. This innovation also provides a response to the challenges of the digital world, by offering an infrastructure that consumes less energy than data centers, and by limiting the carbon footprint of the increasing number of data processing installations in the era of big data.

Marie-Odile Saillard, Director of CHR Metz-Thionville, says: “CHR Metz-Thionville has always been at the forefront of new technologies. With this new pilot project, we are choosing innovation by hosting the first digital boiler from Dalkia and Tresorio, always concerned with saving energy and developing renewable energies

Sylvie Jéhanno, CEO of Dalkia Group, says: “The digital boiler, designed in partnership with the French start-up Tresorio, is an innovation at the heart of the energy and digital revolution. It builds on Dalkia’s know-how in the field of health and heat recovery, in order to offer green and competitive energy to the Metz-Thionville CHR. This installation makes this hospital a smart building at the heart of the circular economy.

Loïc Gorka, CEO of Tresorio, said: “The digital boiler, designed in partnership with Dalkia, is a virtuous and efficient solution. It makes it possible to limit the energy consumption of our computer servers thanks to an innovative water cooling system, and to heat the buildings thanks to heat recovery by Dalkia. We are very proud to contribute, through this partnership, to the greening of our facilities.

Key figures

  • 80,000 kWh of recovery energy produced by the digital boiler
  • 60 ° C of continuous domestic hot water
  • From 5 to 50 kW produced continuously by a server rack
  • Less than 1 m² of floor space
